Project Description
BMW is a German multinational company which currently produces automobiles and motorcycles, and also produced aircraft engines until 1945.
- The company was founded in 1916 and is headquartered in Munich, Bavaria.
- The company has significant motorsport history, especially in touring cars, Formula 1, sports cars and the Isle of Man TT.
Fast-moving large and medium-sized parts are stored and handled in the ultra-modern distribution centre. Every year, more than 4 million delivery note items are processed in a hall covering 117,000 sqm. This means that 6,000 cubic meters of BMW and MINI parts are delivered to regional distribution centres in Germany and abroad, as well as to importers and 300 South-German dealers every day.
In addition to the highest principle of “profitable growth”, the planning focused on service level and lead time. The BMW Group’s market and product campaign also meant a new challenge for the distribution of accessories and spare parts. The department was faced with an increase in parts positions of around 50 %, amounting to 260,000 different items.
