Laying down the foundations for further growth at Weidmüller

Construction work on the new logistics center on the 72,000-square-meter site in the Kindel industrial estate, Hörselberg-Hainich, not far from Eisenach, has been underway since the fall of 2020, with completion scheduled for 2022. io-consultants, as lead consultants, are responsible for concept planning, detailed planning, tendering and contract award, as well as implementation.

Just ten kilometers from the Thuringian Weidmüller GmbH (TWG) site, with optimal connections to the plant itself, the highway and short distances to the two most important German freight airports Frankfurt and Leipzig, Weidmüller is sharpening its logistics profile. The new building is the basis for forward-looking, innovative logistics and an investment in Germany as a business location. The new logistics center, which runs under the project title "NGL" (Next Generation Logistics), will be the global transshipment point for all products.

With a new logistics concept, we can implement these requirements - from our suppliers' shipping to our customers' incoming goods - in the best possible way and in a targeted manner," explained Chief Sales Officer Dr. Timo Berger.

In addition to a high degree of automation of the logistics processes, the logistics center will be equipped in detail with several functionalities, such as a skywalk, which serves as an experience and threshold to the individual building areas for visitors as well as employees, as well as a photovoltaic system and extensive greening in the outdoor area for a sustainable construction of the building.

As the foundation stone was being layed on the 18th of June, Weidmüller Chief Technology Officer and Spokesman for the Board of Management Volker Bibelhausen described the construction project as a "lighthouse project". "Thuringia is located in the center of Europe, and after feeling at home here for more than 30 years, the decision for the location of the logistics center was very easy," he continues. "For the 160,000 people in the region and the local industry, this new location provides planning security and many good development opportunities," added District Administrator Reinhard Krebs.
