B. Braun’s site in the Swiss town of Crissier was expanded to become the central manufacturing hub for compounding bags for artificial nutrition. About 350 employees produce 12 million units per year, which are then shipped to the LIFE Nutrition facility at Melsungen in Germany for filling.
io as lead consultant supported B. Braun on this project from the very beginning. The consulting company started by preparing a concept study which formed the basis for the selected master plan. io then developed a building design, material flows and hygiene zoning, and evaluated alternative implementation models, taking account of future developments and efficiency needs. It was particularly important to ensure full compliance with all applicable GMP guidelines.
The building was designed to enable another two floors to be added at a later date. Modular building panels ensured architectural efficiency, including prefabricated steel construction elements and filigree ceilings, which significantly reduced construction costs.
One of the main challenges was the ambitious time schedule. Only 18 months were available from the start of design planning through the end of the construction work. Once again, io drew on its decades of experience in implementing major investment projects and effectively liaising between partners to lead the project to success.
