Modernization of warehouse processes and technology

Siedle is breaking new ground in a dynamic environment. Networking, cooperation, software and service are the business of the future. In 2017, Siedle decided to modernize its warehouse processes and technology, calling on support from io.

The existing small parts warehouse was the main focus of the renewal measures. The existing facility no longer met the high demands of customers and production.

io’s modernization concept was key to us achieving our goals. The throughput times of all goods flows have been significantly reduced and the performance of the overall system has improved. The AutoStore system fits ideally into the existing structures.

Key Facts

Client

S. Siedle & Söhne, a family-owned company from the Black Forest, has been producing building communication technology in Furtwangen since 1750.

Solution

  • Modernized logistics and IT infrastructure including implementation support
  • Introduction of AutoStore with flexible processes for more storage space
  • Integration of material flow control and processes into existing SAP WM world

Production needed to be switched to order-based provisioning. io helped to maximize space utilization without major structural changes and with only a moderate level of investment, relieving the high-bay warehouse. The result is more storage space through flexible processes.

The decision was made in favor of an end-to-end pick & pack model based on an AutoStore system. The modified layout and the space gains made it possible to consolidate orders for delivery to production. The new material flow control for the high-bay warehouse, integrated as an add-on in SAP WM, reduced interfaces and lowered Siedle’s dependency on external suppliers.
