EVER Pharma Jena GmbH celebrated the official opening of the new aseptic production facilities at its Jena Lobeda site on September 29. Consulting and planning company io, which has a track record in process planning for EVER stretching back to 1995, was responsible for the process technology in this expansion project. They have managed the project planning of the new €110 million production plant from concept through to qualification.
EVER needed to expand the site as the present facilities had reached peak capacity. “The new aseptic filling facility contains sterile and aseptic preparation areas with insulator technology and is absolutely state of the art,” says Henrik Rechmann, Principal Consultant at io. All areas of the sterile production comply with the stringent FDA and EU GMP guidelines on pharmaceutical manufacturing. The 3,500 m2 facility can handle the filling of up to 130 million units per year. Robotics technology is used to help process tube and bulk goods. The facility’s compact design and high flexibility ensure minimization of product changeover times and optimization of material and personnel flows.
The fully automated high-bay warehouse as well as the assembly and packing facilities – newly installed in 2015 – have also been connected to the new production area.
Dr. Friedrich Hillebrand, CEO of EVER Pharma, is delighted with the new production facility: “This expansion is a significant step for EVER Pharma. We aim to use our expertise and resources to develop innovative medicines that address the unmet medical needs of patients around the world. The Jena production site will play an influential role in this.”
