Guided by this mission statement, BRITAX RÖMER has been developing child safety products since 1966: car seats, strollers, children’s bike seats, and accessories. The company has its European headquarters in Leipheim, Swabia, and operates worldwide under the umbrella brand BRITAX. BRITAX was founded in 1938 in the United Kingdom. Initially, the company focused on safety innovations such as seat belts for adults. In 1978, BRITAX merged with the RÖMER brand. Since the introduction of the first car seat in 1966, BRITAX has helped protect millions of children worldwide on the road.
All departments under one roof!
In the 1970s, BRITAX RÖMER developed innovations such as the RÖMER PEGGY, its first child car seat. In 1999, the company introduced the ISOFIX anchoring system for child car seats. BRITAX RÖMER develops and manufactures the majority of its safety innovations in Leipheim—including child seats for automakers such as Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo, and Volkswagen. It takes two to three years to develop a new BRITAX RÖMER child safety seat. The advantage of local production is that all departments—from the initial idea through crash testing to production—are located under one roof. This allows all teams to work in constant collaboration to achieve their shared goal:
Safe, comfortable, and modern child seats. At the company’s headquarters, they are put through their paces—in one of the world’s most advanced crash-test facilities for the dynamic testing of child restraint systems. The safety and quality of the products have been recognized since 1966 with more than 2,075 safety, design, and consumer awards. The phrase “Made in Germany” is also of great importance to the company for another reason: Local production ensures shorter transport routes and thus protects the environment. An efficient process layout was therefore a priority for the company when it established its headquarters in Leipheim. io was responsible for the planning and design.
